ALERT:
Industry Leaders at Risk

The kidnapping of Director of Operations of CARE-Iraq, Margaret Hassan, from her car in Bagdhad on October 19, signals the beginning of a dramatic change in tactics about which we have been warning our clients for some time.

Because kidnapping foreign contractors and activists in Iraq has produced a singular lack of traction with governments that refuse to negotiate with terrorists, terrorists have now, as anticipated, raised the ante. The gruesome murders of the victims, videotaped for our viewing horror, have been insufficient leverage for the terrorists to have their demands met. Senior management of global organizations and their families are now at greater risk than ever before. They believe that higher profile targets will not be so easy for governments to ignore.

Our analysts anticipate an elevation in such events, and a geographic proliferation to include western countries (including the US) and the heads of major global companies. We urge all executives, particularly those engaged in international travel, to use extra precaution in the days and months ahead. We are tracking these events and will continue to provide updates as necessary.
